Customers rave about the mouthwatering fish, which is always cooked to perfection, enveloped in crispy, golden batter. The unique offerings like the John Bull are standout dishes that add a local twist, making it a must-try when visiting. The consistently good quality of food keeps folks coming back. The quick service and friendly staff make for a pleasant dining experience; you'll never feel rushed when enjoying your meal. Plenty of kid-friendly options make it a great choice for families, further enhancing its reputation as a community-friendly spot.

Most Disliked

Some visitors mention difficulty finding parking during busy hours, which can be frustrating. The wait times during peak hours can also be a downside, especially since many patrons recommend this place for a quick meal. Although the prices are reasonable, some diners feel the portions could be a little more generous, especially with side dishes like chips. The casual dining atmosphere may not appeal to those seeking a more upscale experience, but the focus here is clearly on great taste over ambiance.

Wow, outstanding. Had a Fish Chips MushyPeas Curry and a can of pop. £10.10. It's not something I could afford every day but delicious. A big fresh tasty fish surrounded in dead crispy batter, chips were perfect, curry was that traditional flavour with a good consistency, peas were spot on, and all the flavours made up to a great combo. I was here a couple of years ago and they were outstanding then as well, consistency. Recommended 👍

NICE FOOD - SUPER SERVICE! The only place in the country that does a John Bull (spiced mincemeat between two slices of potato, battered and deep-fried) and it's amazing! I urge you to get one with scraps (bits of fried batter) as the crunch adds texture to the taste. Also recommend local Lancashire delicacies including Rag Pudding (stewed meat in suet pasty), 'dab barm pea wet' (otherwise known as 'smack barm pea wet' - fried potato scallop in a buttered breadroll with pea juice) and they also have cuisine from all over the world, including Canadian Poutine and Volkswagen sausages. If you're boring, the fish and chips are superb. Friendly staff, food comes out quickly, I can't say anymore other than it's a 5 star establishment and it comes recommended!

The fish was cooked to perfection and very tasty, it was also my first time trying a John Bull and it definitely won't be my last! I 100% recommend this chippy!

Whenever I work in this area, this is a great place to visit for lunch. Staff are friendly and the food is amazing as is to be expected. Usually go for the John Bull when visiting and it's great. Good level of seasoned meat and the potato and batter are great. Chips here are also great too. They have the right level of crisp and softness that you would expect of a good quality chippy. Parking outside can sometimes be a bit tricky if it's busy as there are few shops on the same street but as its residential there's parking around even if you can't get outside. Prices here are very very reasonable and you can get a decent meal for under a tenner which is perfect. And the price you pay for the quality you get is amazing! The food I have here is consistently good quality and I would highly recommend visiting.

So I had to visit and try the Blackburn’s now Famous John Bull with scraps and chips. Well I wasn’t disappointed ! In fact I really enjoyed it and would have another the next time I’m in the Blackburn area. I think it’s like a bit of spicy haggis between two thin slices of potato. They take a piece off the potato which is perhaps 4” long and 3/16” thick, the slice then has spiced mince and another slice of potato put together, it is then cover it in batter, and deep fried giving you the famous John Bull treat. A Potato fritter is called a Dab around Blackburn. So it’s two dabs with mince between and fried in crispy batter.

Great fish and chips shop, good fish and chips, not to mention the John Bull, apparently the last place in Blackburn to do them. It's only a small shop and it does get busy but that just shows how popular it is.
